डॉ. नारायण भारती ने सिंधी लोकगीतों को विभिन्न बोलियों को ध्यान में रखते हुए विभाजित किया है: सिरेली, विचोली, लाडी, थारी, कच्छी, लस्सी। उन्होंने सिंधी लोकगीतों के प्रकारों पर एक विस्तृत वर्गीकरण भी प्रदान किया है, जैसे लाडा, लोलियूं, सखियां, छल्ला, शब्द, पूजा गीत, आदि।2 डॉ. नबी बख्श बलूच 50 से अधिक प्रकार के सिंधी लोकगीतों की एक और भी लंबी सूची प्रदान करते हैं। अलका पांडे पंजाबी लोकगीत के छह श्रेणियों में रखती हैं: जीवनचक्र गीत, ऋतु गीत , व्यवसाय गीत, त्योहार गीत ,भक्ति गीत ,और प्रेम गीत, गाथागीत और बच्चों के गीत शामिल हैं
